FlatCon Gaming Convention - The Annual FlatCon Gaming Convention, a role-playing, live action, miniature, board and card game extravaganza, will take place October 5-7, 2007 at the Interstate Center in Bloomington. FlatCon is known for its wide variety of events, excellent vendors and games, and has received acclaim in several online e-zines as well as Games Workshop’s monthly magazine White Dwarf. The event, which will celebrate its 8th anniversary in Bloomington, will feature many sanctioned tournaments and game demos from a wide variety of genres. Vendors will also be on hand with a variety of products ranging from Anime movies to various types of games, collectibles and comics. More than 450 people are expected to attend this year’s event which is open to the public. Joining FlatCon this year is the organization Gamers for a Cure, a gaming group raising funds to help fight cancer. This group will be sponsoring a number of activities, including game demos, a raffle and a build-your-own-sword workshop. All proceeds raised from the activities will go to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Players can also look forward to participating in one of Flatcon’s “Over The Top Games” which have become a signature of the convention. These games involve elaborate scenery and game pieces, hands-on participation by players, and custom rulesets. Players can play with large WW2 battleship models in the MegaScale Battleship Showdown, re-enact battle scenes from the movie Starship Troopers or, for those diehard Star Wars fans, replay the battle above Endor inside a 7 foot Death Star model. Flatcon also has a large area reserved for electronic entertainment such as computer & LAN gaming and console video games, including Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero. There will be a dedicated video programming area, showing movies, television shows, and anime throughout the weekend. In addition, the Role-Playing Games Association (RPGA) will be returning to hold their sanctioned roleplaying events. Members are welcome, and new players can register to be a member for free onsite. Discovery Bunch - When Autumn Falls by Kelli Nidey - Gather around for story time and hands-on learning! This program is designed for children ages 3-5 years old and their adult partner. Millard Fuller Speaks on Affordable Housing - Millard Fuller is a dynamic speaker and is the Founder of Habitat for Humanity and The Fuller Center for Housing. Mr. Fuller is known worldwide for his work in leading efforts to provide over 200,000 houses to those in need of adequate shelter. His visit to our community is to promote collaboration and cooperation to provide affordable housing. Tickets are $10 each with proceeds shared equally between Habitat for Humanity of McLean County and The Fuller Center for Housing of Central Illinois. Magician Garry Carson - International travels of Garry Carson & Kelsey have mystified, entertained and inspired literally millions of people in over 38 different countries throughout the world with their magic and illusions. For one night only they will be performing at Community Players Theatre as a fundraising event to celebrate 85 years of Live Theatre.
