GIRLS BASKETBALL FINALS TO REMAIN
IN BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL
BLOOMINGTON (April 27) - The Illinois High School Association voted
unanimously to continue its relationship with Bloomington-Normal for
the Girls Basketball State Finals through 2010 on Wednesday.
The Bloomington-Normal Area Convention and Visitors Bureau,
Bloomington-Normal Sports Commission and Illinois State University
Athletics submitted the proposal to continue hosting the Class A and
AA finals at Redbird Arena. The event has been in Bloomington-Normal
since 1992 and the groups involved look forward to another five years
of hosting the state championship for Girls Basketball in Bloomington-Normal.
"We are thrilled to continue being the home for the Girls Basketball
State Finals," said Crystal Howard, Director of the Bloomington-Normal
Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. "The event has been a staple
for our community since the early 1990's and we are proud to kick
off March Madness in Bloomington-Normal."
Last fall, Bloomington-Normal was awarded the contract to continue
hosting the IHSA Boys Golf and Girls Volleyball State Finals through
2009.
"Sports are a major part of this community," continued Howard.
"By
continuing to host the state finals for Boys Golf, Girls Volleyball
and
Girls Basketball here, we're making a commitment to bringing the top
high school athletes and their fans to the area."
