SWING INTO FALL IN BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL BLOOMINGTON - With fall in the air, the Bloomington-Normal Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is excited to welcome guests from all around as they journey to McLean County during the month of October. The month swings into action with the IESA Girls State Softball Finals at Champion Fields in Normal. Sixteen teams divided by class will compete with two teams (Class A and AA) earning state championship trophies on October 2nd. History buffs won’t want to miss Voices From the Past: Evergreen Cemetery Discovery Walk Evergreen Memorial Cemetery: A Retrospective. During the weekends of October 2nd - 3rd and 9th - 10th, the public can follow a tour guide through the cemetery to learn more about historic characters from McLean County’s past. Outdoor and photography enthusiasts should take in the Buffalo “Photo” Shoot at the Grand Village of the Kickapoo Park in rural LeRoy on Saturday, October 2nd. A hayrack ride into a herd of Buffalo’s will allow a unique chance to get an upclose look at one of Illinois’ native animals. The IHSA Boys State Golf Finals are set to tee off in Bloomington-Normal on Friday, October 15th and Saturday, October 16th. Finalists will test their skills at Prairie Vista Golf Course and The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course in search of a state championship. Elementary school runners from around the state will race to Bloomington-Normal on Saturday, October 16th. The IESA State Finals meet is set for a course through Maxwell Park to determine the state champions. Homecoming week at Illinois State University begins on Monday, October 18th and concludes on Saturday, October 24th. Halloween activities are numerous during October and they begin with the Heartland Theatre Company’s production of “Beast on the Moon” from October 14th through October 30th. The Halloween Haunted Trail (October 22-23 & 29-30), Upper Limits Creepy Crawly Climbing Bash (October 29), Halloween Happening at Miller Park (October 30), Little Goblins (October 30), and Halloween Trick-or-Treat at Eastland Mall (October 30) are just a few of the Halloween events in McLean County.
