Located in downtown Normal, the Normal Theater opened in 1937 and was the first theater built in Bloomington-Normal specifically for sound films. Its Art Moderne, or streamline design reflects the quintessential modern town design of the mid-twentieth century. The Normal Theater has been completely restored to its original condition, and now operates as a film center, showing classic, independent and world cinema. It is also available for rental for those wishing an auditorium-style venue.
The Normal Theater is located on the National Register of Historic Sites.
