The Stevenson family has brought honor to McLean County for three generations. Buried here are Adlai I, Vice-President for Grover Cleveland, and Adlai II, who was Governor of Illinois, Ambassador to the United Nations and twice Democratic candidate for the United States Presidency. Also, buried here are Adlai ’s wife, Letitia Green Stevenson, who was the Second National President-General of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) from 1893-1898, and her sister, Julia Green Scott, the Seventh National President-General of the DAR from 1909-1913.
Every year during the last weekend of September and first weekend of October, the McLean County Museum of History hosts the "Voices from the Past:" Evergreen Cemetery Discovery Walk (pictured above). The Discovery Walk brings history to life through costumed actors assuming the intriguing characters of McLean County’s ancestors in the beautiful grounds of Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the people who contributed to central Illinois’ colorful history. Bring your family to participate in this fascinating, award-winning outdoor theater program.
