SugarGroveNatureCenter is a hidden central Illinois natural treasure. It contains interpretive exhibits, a bird sanctuary, children’s discovery den and live animals. The NatureCenter is open year round. Environmental education programs are offered to schools, scout groups, and the general public on a variety of topics. The Sugar Grove Observatory provides a place for the Twin City Amateur Astronomers to conduct public viewing sessions. On the third Saturday of every month, the Illinois Valley Blacksmith’s Association conducts demonstrations at the Sugar Grove Forge. Over five miles of well maintained trails take visitors through prairie, forest and riverine habitats. A trail from the nature center leads to the FunksGroveChurch, Cemetery and Chapel of Templed Trees. Adjacent to the nature center and across the covered bridge is Imagination Grove, a special place where kids can be kids, designed to form a bond between children and nature that lasts a lifetime. This nature exploration area invites kids of all ages to search for fossils and arrowheads, build a fort, tromp in the creek, pretend they are an early explorer and so much more!
