Founded in 1857, Illinois State University was the first public university in the state and is one of the Midwest’s oldest institutions of higher education. It is a coeducational, residential university with an emphasis on undergraduate study. Its 34 academic departments in six colleges offer 63 undergraduate programs in more than 160 fields of study. The Graduate School coordinates 38 master’s, two specialist, and seven doctoral programs.

The University enrolls more than 17,800 undergraduate and approximately 2,500 graduate students. More than 3,200 faculty and staff are employed by Illinois State. The 350-acre campus includes 61 major buildings, with state-of-the-art technology in classrooms. Watterson Towers is one of the most unique campus structures, as the residence hall is the tallest building between Chicago an St. Louis. From meeting facilities to cultural opportunities through the arts and the excitement of numerous sporting events each year, Illinois State is a vital part of the Bloomington-Normal community.

The ivy-covered buildings located on the 79-acre campus of this academically-acclaimed private university create a pleasant atmosphere for its 2,000-plus students. The full-time faculty of 173 allows for an outstanding student/instructor ratio, translating into a high-quality education in the areas of liberal arts, fine arts, and nursing.

An NCAA Division III school, Illinois Wesleyan has had 100 athletes elected to the Academic All-American team since 1970. The Shirk Center provides the latest in recreation and athletic opportunities, and is regarded as one of the finest athletic facilities in the country.

Campus tours of IWU are available by appointment only, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. - Noon.

Heartland Community College

Heartland Community College is the youngest community college in the state and has just opened its permanent campus in north Normal. The campus features state-of-the-art technology, community meeting space and many new services for students. The college itself has grown rapidly from its first 800 students in 1991 to nearly 4000 students today. Costs are very affordable at the open admission institution. In addition to a variety of programs to prepare students for the work force or continuing education, Heartland offers GED courses, personal enrichment classes and customized training programs for businesses.

Lincoln College - Normal, a private residential college, offers academic and vocational programs to nearly 600 students. Accredited by the North Central Association, Lincoln offers Bachelor’s degrees in Business Management and Liberal Arts as well as Associate degrees. Travel and Tourism certificates are also offered at Lincoln College - Normal, which is the only college to offer this program in Central Illinois. Courses are offered at convenient and flexible times in a small classroom environment with a student/faculty ratio of 14:1. Fully furnished on campus apartment suite housing is available as well as a student activity center.

Professional training for the 21st Century in Cosmetology, Esthetics and Nail Technology. Midwest College of Cosmetology offers the highest level of training available for salon professionals. Students may live on campus in residential housing on the adjacent Lincoln College at Normal campus. Since MCC is affiliated with Lincoln College, students also have the opportunity to work toward an Associates of Applied Science in Cosmetology degree. Students are educated in the beautifully-equipped upscale salon and complete day spa.
